About Vineyard Audiology

Request Appointment

At Vineyard Audiology, we believe that better hearing is key to maintaining your quality of life and your most cherished relationships.

Our staff is committed to doing everything we can to help you become more engaged and feel more connected to the ones you love.

Vineyard Audiology is not just about improving hearing, it’s about improving your life. We truly get to know every single patient we see. Some of our patients have been coming to see us since we opened, and we’ve been honored to help them hear the important things in their lives over the years.

Because we want to serve our community as much as possible, we go the extra mile to offer a broad range of services. No matter what your hearing needs may be, we’re here to help — assisting people of all ages with hearing loss (including pediatric audiology); providing communication counseling; partnering with a local ear, nose, and throat physician to treat tinnitus; prescribing and fitting hearing aids; and more.

For years, Dr. Lesley Segal had been visiting Martha’s Vineyard and loved the island with all her heart. As a licensed, practicing audiologist herself, Dr. Segal resolved to fill that gap of Martha’s Vineyard not having an Audiologist and make sure that everyone on Martha’s Vineyard has access to high-quality hearing health care without needing to leave the island.

Dr. Lesley Segal, Au.D., CCC/A

Doctor of Audiology

The Vineyard Audiology Story

Established in 1998, Vineyard Audiology is her own private practice. For 26 years Dr. Segal has serviced friends and neighbors on the island. We consider ourselves fortunate to be part of such a special community, and we greatly enjoy giving back to a place that has given us so much.

Dr. Lesley Segal has served as a senior audiologist at Children’s Hospital of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York, and received her Master of Arts at SUNY Geneseo and her Doctor of Audiology degree from A.T. Her extensive time working with young people as a pediatric audiologist prepared her to help clients of all ages with patience and compassion, and kindness to every appointment.

Why Vineyard Audiology?

  • We’re dedicated to the Martha’s Vineyard community. We wouldn’t choose to be anywhere else in the world! It’s an honor to serve such a unique and special place.
  • We have decades of experience. We’ve had our office here since 1998, and our audiologist previously worked with patients for years in other settings such as hospitals.
  • We truly listen to and value you as an individual. We are in this field because we want to help people, not because we’re trying to sell hearing aids. We take the time to listen to you and understand your needs.
  • We can assist you with a wide range of hearing needs. It’s important to us that Martha’s Vineyard has its hearing needs covered without having to leave the island, so we work hard to be a one-stop shop.
  • We serve patients of all ages. Our audiologist spent many years in pediatric audiology, and she has children of her own, so we’re comfortable treating everyone from young children through mature adults.
  • We are a multiline hearing aid distributor. We carry a wide selection of hearing aids from different manufacturers, which gives us more options when we make a recommendation to help you.
  • We support you as well as your family. Hearing loss doesn’t just affect one person, it affects everyone close to them. We can counsel your family to help you support each other while we treat your hearing loss.

Supporting the Martha's Vineyard Community

When Dr. Segal founded her practice, she considered the needs of Martha’s Vineyard residents. That’s why we offer such a broad range of services. We’re proud to be able to care for patients of all ages, from infants of 6 months through mature seniors. We can help with hearing testing and evaluation; hearing protection; and fitting, programming, repairing, and maintaining hearing aids. In addition to helping with hearing devices, we also specialize in counseling patients and their families on better communication through hearing loss. If you’re having any sort of hearing trouble, we encourage you to come see us and give us a chance to help you, too.

Your First Appointment

  1. First, we’ll take a look inside your ear and perform an otoscopy, an ear exam that lets us see if there are any visible problems with your ear. For example, you might have an accumulation of earwax, which we can remove. If we see any other concerns with your ears, we’ll make a referral to your physician or an ear, nose, and throat physician.
  2. If your ear looks clear, we’ll go ahead and evaluate your hearing with a series of tests that gather more detailed information about your specific hearing loss.
  3. Once the testing process is done, we’ll interview you and learn more about your lifestyle, what you’ve been having trouble hearing, and what you hope to get out of treatment. If you’ve brought a family member with you, we’ll ask for their perspective as well.
  4. We’ll review your results with you and explain what everything means. We view our role in this as part of your team, working together to help you understand your hearing loss and what your options are. We’ll be very honest with you about what you can expect from hearing aids because realistic expectations are key to being successful with hearing aids.
  5. If we determine that hearing aids may be a good fit for you, we’ll tell you what we think the best fit would be. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide whether to proceed with getting hearing aids. If you decide to move forward with hearing aids, we will either fit you that day if we have your model in the office, or we may need to order a pair specifically for you.
  6. We will talk about ways you can improve your listening experience beyond just amplification (hearing devices). For example, you can be careful about where you sit in a room to improve the acoustics and reduce background noise. We do everything we can to make sure you are hearing at your very best and comfortable with your solutions.
